It appears silly season is firmly upon us as it was only yesterday that we revealed that reports in Spanish and English newspapers suggested Álvaro Morata could move to the Emirates on loan.
However, as is sometimes the case in the January transfer window, the situation has taken a dramatic course of action. In fact today we have heard several different scenarios.
Three different stories…
AS stated that Morata’s agent was coming to England to thrash out a deal with either Arsenal or Tottenham Hotspur, whilst Spanish TV show El Chiringuito de Jugones believe he could move to Benfica.
Then to top it all off Arsène Wenger stated that no talks between the north London club and Real Madrid had took place.
AS believe that Real Madrid are now willing to sell Morata and Juanma Lopez will have talks with Arsenal and Tottenham to see if a deal can be arranged for January.
Real were reluctant to see the young forward leave but the emergence of Jese Rodriguez has meant Morata’s chances have become even more limited than before and he could move to England as the Arsenal manager is interested in signing him.
Wenger says it won’t happen
These talks though were seemingly squashed by Wenger who firmly rejected claims that they were in discussions with Madrid over the Spanish forward.
He also said that the transfer window is a distraction, adding: “Nothing has changed because we are open to a possible solution and if something interesting turns up we will do it.
“It could be a loan as well yes, we are not in talks (about Morata), or with Real about anybody. I do not want to speak about any specific names.
“The transfer market is a distraction that for me is not welcome. I think it would be much better that there is no transfer market at all in January.”
Benfica join the party
Then the final tip of the iceberg to add to the confusion was Daily Mirror reporting news from Spanish TV show El Chiringuito de Jugones. They believe Benfica are in pole position to sign the 21-year-old.
It is reported that Benfica star forward Rodrigo could be sold and the Portuguese club see Morata as the perfect replacement, with a €7 million fee reported to be enough to take him from Madrid.
It seems that January 10th is the day of crazy transfer rumours surrounding one Real Madrid forward. If you can pick the meat from this bone then let us know.
