Reports emerged last night over the future of Olivier Giroud, agent Michael Manuello declaring that the player will be staying at the Gunners for the long-term.
Paper Talk
The comments come after rumours suggested that the 27 year-old would be seeking new pastures next season, after crunch talks with the manager. Reports claimed that Juventus, Borussia Dortmund and Roma were all interested in signing the striker this summer.
Despite Arsène Wenger’s reservations on the forward’s future, Giroud’s representative is adamant that this is all paper talk and said:
"He's very settled in London and the club is happy with him. I think there is no possibility he might change club.
"At the end of the season we will meet with the Gunners to discuss a contract extension."
Hero at Home
The Frenchman strengthened his case for a new deal, scoring in the 2-2 draw to Swansea on Tuesday night. Despite negative comments in regards to his performances, five goals in three home matches suggest that his contribution has been more significant than credited.
However, his build-up play has been heavily criticized over the lack of strength that the forward possess up front. With only one out of six take-ons completed last night, it shows that his lack of penetrative force has led to the Gunners’ style of play.
Playing Hardball
It cannot be denied that Giroud’s contribution to the club this season has been higher than he is given credit for. 19 goals in all competitions is a great turnout for a side who rely on their midfield talent to supply the clinical edge to the team.
Mr. Manuello may be trying to play hard to get with other teams, so this story is unlikely to go away anytime soon.
