In my last piece, I emphasized the importance of getting the three points against Swansea. If we had won, the race to finish in the top three would have been both achievable and acceptable, thus providing our players with some well needed confidence for the FA cup semi-final. The players surely knew how vital this game was, and surely now know that they bottled it in a childish manner.
Disgraceful and heart-breaking is what our performance was. I would class it as being worse than the Chelsea performance, purely because of the ridiculous lack of passion and commitment shown.
I really do wonder what goes through our players’ minds at times. Rosicky, one of our oldest players on the pitch (33), was the only player taking the bloody initiative to run at the Swansea defence. It's beyond abnormal; it's aspects of a football match that just don't make sense.
Wenger
Against both Swansea and Chelsea, Arsene has been criticized of getting his tactics horribly wrong. Not starting Flamini was seen as being a school boy error by him. For the game against Chelsea, on paper our team would have been a lot more solid with Flamini in our side.
However, it's extremely evident how careless Flamini can be; in terms of getting sent off, conceding free kicks in dangerous position, own goals and more. Flamini would have been the last choice on my list to face Chelsea. Purely because of his raw attributes, that can cost us a lot.
Having said that, Arsene got it wrong, as the result proved. He went on to admit to his errors. My point is, I understand why that move was made (not starting him).
Furthermore, all talk about Wenger leaving this summer is ludicrous to me.
Wenger's first 500 games were revolutionary to the club; he introduced a new style of offensive football that all big clubs have adopted.
His second 500 games is a different story. Wenger got introduced to a new plan by our board, a plan that would have left any manager with the worst of nightmares.
Wenger has come through the "impossible" stage of this plan. Having to go 8 years with absolutely no budget to spend on the players of his likings, being forced to sell our star players etc. He has however, still managed to get us in the champions league every year, which as United have shown this year, really is a difficult task.
So this year is the first year where numbers look strong for Wenger, and giving him only one year is mental. Isn't sticking with our manager, and giving him the right amount of time what this club has always stood for? Isn't that what we've been criticizing Chelsea of not doing? We've gone through 8 years of pain, so waiting one last year would by no means by difficult. Give him one last year, that's all I ask for.
Man City
I've always been extremely positive going into big games, even if our performances have never actually backed my initial predictions. But surely our players know we can't afford anything other than a win?
Squad wise City are a lot stronger, individually as well. I am doubtful of our players, especially after two heart-breaking results, but I just feel it would be too much for our players to take.
Up the Arsenal.
