Arsenal have received a further boost in their hopes to bring Argentine international Ángel di María to the Emirates for the 2014/15 season.
The Real Madrid winger was sensational last season and played a major part in helping his club win the Champions League. Arsenal Latest reported recently that Arsenal were looking to make a £35 million bid for the 26-year-old.
A source close to di María told UOL Sport recently that the Argentinian would be interested in leaving Madrid this summer and that the Gunners had already made an offer for the midfielder.
‘Real Madrid hold key to my future’
To add further weight to the speculation that the Real Madrid man may be looking to leave his current club, the 26-year-old spoke to MARCA recently.
Daily Mail quoted di María, he said:
“I am not going to lie, I know that there are clubs that want to sign me and can match Real Madrid's demands.
“But that's up to my representatives and the club. I will stay if the club wants me to stay. I am not thinking about my future now. We will see what Madrid have in mind, whether they want me to stay or leave.'
“I am happy at Madrid. I had a great season and always had everybody's support. But sometimes you don't have a choice, even when you want to stay yourself.”
Time to make a move Wenger
While di María admitted he was happy at his current club, it is clear to see that he would be open to a move away and a fresh challenge.
If Arsenal and Arsène Wenger are serious about signing the Argentinian it seems they could get their man, assuming they don’t hang around, as there will be a number of clubs after the former Benfica man.
It has been reported that £35 million will be enough to prize di María away from the Bernabéu and if Wenger has any sense he will be doing his upmost to get this transfer underway.
