The Press Association are today reporting that Arsenal ‘keeper Wojciech Szczesny has not received a fine nor has he been dropped following his horror-show at St. Marys last week.
This is contrary to our previous report in which there was an apparent dressing room bust up following the game, leading to fallout between the Polish keeper and the Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger.
As reported previously, Wenger did not wish to comment on the ‘keeper in an interview following his performance at St.Mary’s stating:
“I don’t want to talk about [him].”
Danish TV were soon to speculate about Szczesny’s future with former Gunner John Jensen stating he had received a huge fine from the club following his behaviour. These rumours however seemed to have been quashed with these new reports stating Szczesny has not received any punishment neither has he been dropped indefinitely.
Ospina’s start in goal against Hull City in the FA Cup lead to further speculation to the uncertain future of Szczesny however it is now just seems as if he was merely rested.
Szczesny is a controversial player when it comes to the Arsenal faithful. His talent is obvious, yet his concentration and decisions can be very erratic, as seen in his display against Southampton on Thursday last. The young Pole won the Golden glove last year with Petr Cech for most clean sheets in the Premier League season and has made over 150 appearances in an Arsenal jersey since his debut in 2009.
It remains to be seen who will start in goals against the Potters on Sunday but following these revelations, don’t be surprised if Wojciech Szczesny is again, given the nod ahead of Ospina.
