According to Tancredi Palmeri the Gunners are to meet with AS Roma representatives over the possible signing of Italian forward Mattia Destro.

The fee being discussed is around €15million-€20million according to the source. Arsenal aren’t the only side said to be interested in the Italian international, however, with both Milan clubs, AC and Inter, apparently chasing his signature.

As Roma are looking for replacements for Destro, with Mohammed Salah being mentioned. Bruno Perez is also said to be a target for the Italian side.

A stumbling block is that Destro is contracted until 2017 which may mean the transfer fee will be a little higher than Arsenal may like.

As reported before destroy said he was looking to leave the Rome side after his lack of regular first team football stating:

"Am I like the sixth man in basketball?

"It’s better to be in the first five. I like the comparison, but honestly my ambition is to be among the starters.”

"At 23, you shouldn’t be considered a youngster, but it must be said it’s difficult for young players.

"And there’s something that should make us think - if a young player has a certain level of ability they go abroad”

The reports of last week seem to have some substance following the news that Arsenal are to discuss a possible move for Destro, according to the Italian source.

The Gunners have just come off a 2-0 victory over Manchester City, a result that was not predicted by many and if they sign someone like Destro, they would certainly be making a statement on the Premier League. Granted, Arsenal are in need of more defensive reinforcements however the signing of Destro is certainly exciting for Arsenal fans.

Interesting developments on this story, let’s see if anything comes of the talks.
