David Dein has given his two pence on Arsenal’s summer plans, reassuring fans that, in his opinion at least, money will be spent. The former vice-chairman left Arsenal in 2007 but remains good friends with Wenger, who he claims still has the “fire in his belly” to compete at the top.

"Clearly they have fallen 20-odd points behind Manchester United which is not good enough and it speaks for itself that he has to strengthen the team and I know he will do that," he said.

"He is one of the best managers in the world, he has been coaching for 30 years, he knows what he is doing, he knows what he wants and I think it's just a question of identifying the right talent."

We hear that a lot, and who knows if this summer will be ‘the summer’. It’s impossible to tell at the best of times.

David the second

Having previously given his opinion on Arsenal’s goalkeeping situation, former stopper David Seaman has admitted his frustration with Arsenal’s current distance from the title/silverware.

"Almost every year we were winning things. I have got nine winners' medals and quite a few runners-up ones as well and to see what is happening now is so frustrating,"

"You could argue that they are playing better football because when they are on form, nobody is going to beat them. They play some fantastic one-touch and two-touch football, but it is not consistent enough.

"Whether the balance is right, I don't know. We are getting inconsistent performances."

More or less summing up what most Arsenal fans think about their team. Brilliant when on-form, less so when not, and with no indication as to which side will turn up at any given time.

It’s unclear what he means by the “balance” of the side, whether that be strength in depth or the personnel deployed. It sounds more like a general phrase that he used for lack of a better term.

Can’t really think of a decent pun

In the first left-field link of recent times, Arsenal are reportedly interested in Getafe midfielder Abdelaziz Barrada, as well as Tottenham. The report doesn’t offer any source, so it could be agent talk, or Arsenal’s usual routine of signing somebody nobody (except their current side, family, friends, etc) has heard of, possibly just to annoy people.

To stop people getting instantly annoyed by Arsenal not being linked with Sami Khedira, or Fabregas or someone like that, here’s a video of Barrada in action:

Now you can decide he’s awful and will never make it on the basis of some evidence! Yay!
