Another day and more transfer rumours surrounding the Emirates as Wenger’s promise of a big spending spree is yet to begin.
The press and the fans are waiting with baited breath to see if Wenger will splash the cash, and today's rumours are suggesting he just might.
Perry wants Wanyama
In more exciting news, former Arsenal legend Perry Groves has urged Arsenal to go for Celtic general Victor Wanyama.
The Celtic midfielder is wanted by many clubs over Europe including Inter, Southampton and Spurs, but only Arsenal can offer the strong midfielder Champions League football, and at a price of around £10 million he could be a great bargain.
Arsenal are in need of a powerful Patrick Vieira kind of player and Wanyama could be just the ticket. Also getting one over on the neighbours by snatching him from under their nose would be a kick in the teeth even before the season is underway.
Fabregas may Return
Another player being linked to many clubs this summer is Cesc Fabregas. It seems if Fabregas decides he does want to leave Barcelona, Arsenal are in a good position to sign the playmaker.
David Moyes has eyed Fabregas up for his first signing at Old Trafford, but Arsenal are ready to jump in if any formal bid is made. Fabregas made 212 appearances for Arsenal over 8 seasons and is loved at the club.
In Cesc’s contract is a clause giving Arsenal 50% of the money from his next sale, and a first-option clause meaning Arsenal would be informed of any offer. With these clauses it makes Fabregas moving back to the Emirates much more financially viable for Barcelona, and the emotional pressure on Fabregas for a return to the club he loves also makes it seem like a return is possible.
It would be a sensational signing for Arsenal and one that shows real intent. Over to you Mr. Wenger.
Villa Coming to England
Back to Barcelona for the final rumour, and evidently their experienced striker David Villa is a wanted man in England. Bids have supposedly been made for Villa by Arsenal, Spurs and Liverpool, and it seems Villa is keen on a move to the Emirates.
The Spanish striker has bags of experience and it is easy to see why clubs are interested in him, he has grabbed nearly 300 goals in his career and is a player who clearly knows how to find the net.
It is almost certain he will be playing in the Premiership next year, the question is where.
Rafa keen on Vermaelen
Firstly, Thomas Vermaelen is getting a lot of time in the headlines this week. Despite his words claiming he is happy at Arsenal and ready to fight for his place, Napoli still are keeping tabs on the Belgian.
Apparently, Benitez is keen on recruiting from the Premiership for his new side, as Martin Skrtel is also on the Spaniards wish list if he fails to sign Vermaelen. I can understand the appeal of the Belgian, he is a top class defender on his day and would be a first-team player for most clubs in Europe.
Vermaelen has stated his desire to stay at the Emirates though and I don’t think Wenger has a reason to sell the captain.
