Back to the rumour mill again, and it seems that the same names keep cropping up on Arsene Wenger’s radar.
Villa happy at the Nou Camp
Firstly David Villa is again in the news. With much speculation about the 31 year old Spaniard leaving the Nou Camp this summer, Villa has come out claiming he is happy at ‘very happy in Barcelona’.
With Spurs, Liverpool and Arsenal putting offers on the table it seemed nailed on that Villa was making a move to the Premiership, but these comments could throw a spanner into the works.
There are some more positive signs for the English clubs though, as Villa didn’t hint he would definitely stay, claiming ‘I’m just thinking about doing a good job in Brazil, then we will see’.
These comments give hope to Arsenal and their plans to sign the experienced striker.
Wanyama keen on Arsenal
Another player that keeps cropping up is Victor Wanyama. The midfield general is heavily rumoured to be on Arsene Wenger's wish list, and it would only apparently take £10 million to bring him to the Emirates.
In another boost for Arsenal in this transfer story, the footballing mentor of the Celtic midfielder, has claimed that Wanyama has ‘set his heart on joining Arsenal this Summer’. Jean-Marie Abeels trained Wanyama from a young age and is a lifelong friend. These claims will do nothing but attract Arsenal more to the Kenyan midfielder.
It seems players are also keen on Wanyama, with Ramsey claiming he ‘has great talent’ and that the Welshman would be ‘the first to welcome him’.
Wenger interested in Rooney
Wayne Rooney is again being linked to Arsenal today, after Wenger has claimed ‘Rooney would be an interesting player for everybody in the World’. It seems Wenger has been talking up his interest in the 27 year old England striker, who scored a lovely strike for the international team last night, after Rooney handed in a transfer request late last season at Old Trafford.
There will be competition from PSG though, who are offering Rooney a massive £300,000 after tax.
In the same interview Arsene Wenger spoke about Fabregas’ move to Old Trafford, claiming his lack of appearances had led to a lack of confidence for the Spanish playmaker.
Walcott and Chamberlain England performances
Finally, last night there was a surprisingly interesting England match on, after a rather drab first half, the second half really sprung into life and the match ended 2-2.
Two Arsenal players were on show for England, with Theo Walcott starting the game and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain coming on as a sub. Walcott had a frustrating game, often getting into good positions but playing the wrong ball and giving away possession. Walcott, who played in the number 9, had a good chance at the end of the first half but a good save from Julio Cesar (who is claimed to be Emirates-bound) scuppered him.
Chamberlain came on as a sub for Glen Johnson on 61 minutes for what would be his finest England performance to date. The 19 year old changed the game with some brilliant passes, one to James Milner on the way to the second goal. It also only took him 6 more minutes to equalise for England with a wonderful strike from the edge of the box.
Chamberlain was the star performer after coming on and the performance will have pleased both his club and international manager greatly.
