This was neither a convincing nor a catastrophic Arsenal performance. Perhaps with a bit more will, you feel like Arsenal could have grabbed the game by the scruff of the neck, but, avoiding a defeat seemed more important.
It was a lacklustre performance from both sides. A majority of The Gunners' final balls did not find their intended targets, and they appeared defensively susceptible on counter. Neither midfield was either to assert themselves, despite the talent on show.
Wojciech Szczesny - 6 - In reality the Pole had little to deal with throughout the match. Handled a few less than convincing Chelsea strikes and overcome the tough conditions, his main achievement tonight.
Bacary Sagna - 6 - Made an intense start to the game, showing defensive steel and an option going forward in the first half. Both Arsenal’s wing backs were exposed throughout the second half, although, like Gibbs, put some dangerous balls into the area.

The trip to the Etihad was always going to be the toughest test yet for The Gunners, and despite providing one of the spectacles of the season, it was a miserable afternoon for Wenger’s men.
In defiance of Manchester City’s dominance at home, Arsene was keen not to play down Arsenal’s chances before the game. He asked for focus from the players, something that was always going to be a challenge after an intense trip to Napoli with only two days to recover. The general feeling amongst many of the Arsenal fans was a pessimistic one.
Relentless City
City’s attacking prowess put Arsenal under pressure from the very start. The Gunners looked weak down both wings early on, and City were ripe to exploit. Sagna, in his first game back from injury, was unable to keep up with the early intensity, and the quick movement of City eventually paid off for them.

Trips to The Etihad Stadium have been the among most foreboding in the Premier League. Manchester United went there and conceded 4, while Tottenham conceded 6.
It's not often Arsenal will score 3 times and be soundly beaten, but the Gunners are now the second team from North London to concede 6 in the blue half of Manchester.
Wojciech Szczesny - 5 – Despite letting in 6, Szczesny could do little with any of the goals. Even when conceding a penalty for the 6th, he was exposed by his outfield players, which was a running theme in the game.
Bacary Sagna – 5 – It appeared that Sagna was rushed back from injury, as he looked off the pace, and had a tough time containing Samir Nasri. He gave a nice assist for Arsenal's 3rd goal, but this was a below-par Sagna.

As the dust settles on a truly intriguing Premier League spectacle, Arsenal sit 5 points clear at the top of the Premier League table. This means the Gunners have extended the gap between the chasing pack, but this does not justify the mood of many Arsenal fans this Sunday evening. The potential for the gap to have been 7 points at full time after Mesut Özil’s calm 80th minute strike is the reason for the sense of frustration felt by the supporters.
A Frustrating Draw
After surviving an impressive barrage of Everton pressure in the first half (who showed more energy and out-passed the men in red and white), it felt like one of those games that champions win when the German maestro found the net late on.
The clichéd phrase ‘champions win even when they are not at their best’ seemed to ring true, until Gerard Deulofeu smashed in an equaliser just four minutes later.

Given the other points dropped by Arsenal's title rivals this weekend, one may think that a home win against Everton was a must.
However, after a breathless game, and an excellent performance from Everton, a draw was not only a fair result, but potentially a good one when we look back at the end of the season.
WOJCIECH SZCZESNY – 7 – The Pole played as big a part in the result as anyone. He wasn't needed a great deal in the first-half. But he made two fine saves from Ross Barkley and Steven Pienaar, and denied Romelu Lukaku when the score was 1-1. Pretty blameless on the Everton goal.
CARL JENKINSON – 7 – He had early difficulties dealing with Bryan Oviedo in the opening 45 minutes. But he defended better as Oviedo tired as the game progressed. He will be disappointed not to have made many inroads going forward.
