Any win over Tottenham is one to be treasured, but ones in the FA Cup have an extra dimension, as the Gunners remain in contention for three separate trophies.
The fact that Tottenham are left with the Europa League is an added bonus for many of us.
Lukasz Fabianski - 7 – He wasn't needed to do much, but he was neat & tidy whenever he was called into action. Looks a reliable back-up to Szczesny.
Bacary Sagna – 7 – Yet another solid display from Sagna. He defended with his customary aplomb, and was always a willing out-ball for his teammates when going forward.

For 88 minutes this looked like a game in which we had forgotten how to score. 25 shots, just the three on target, it looked like one of those days for Wenger’s.
This was an extremely lacklustre performance from the Arsenal team in the first half, there was little spark and no impetus. We were certainly missing a presence upfront, and some verve in midfield. This was duly delivered upon 60 minutes as The Gunners looked to break, and finally did, the resolute Cardiff defence.
Szczęsny - 6 - Had little to do and was as the Bluebirds mustered up just the one shot on target. Impressive when called upon and commanded his area well.
Monreal - 7 - An all round decent performance from the Spaniard. Dealt well with the danger during Cardiff’s attacking phases, whilst contributing resolutely to our own. Supported Cazorla well allowing him to drift centrally, and delivered dangerous crosses that we mostly couldn’t exploit. Until the 88th minute. Impressed.

Arsenal ended last season with a nerve-racking 1-0 win at Newcastle. Once again, nails were bitten to the quick, as Arsenal ground out a 1-0 against an impressive Newcastle side, which means the Gunners end 2013 as the league leaders.
Wojciech Szczesny - 6 – The Pole almost made a howler by gifting a goal to Loic Remy, and one worries that he'll make a mistake that will cost Arsenal points at some stage. However, he was solid otherwise, and made a crucial punch when Newcastle had a corner with the last attack of the game.
Bacary Sagna – 8 – His crossing wasn't at its usual standard, but Sagna was a willing passing option for his teammates. And his defending was magnificent, making two key interventions from Newcastle crosses. He was just an important playing centre-half as he was at right-back.
Per Mertesacker – 7 – He had a couple of awkward one vs one moments against Remy, but the captain responded well. His positioning was faultless, evinced by him making 16 clearances, more than any other player. He really came to the fore in the second-half, as Newcastle carpet-bombed the Arsenal box with crosses.

Arsenal ended a run of 4 games without a win with a 3-1 victory over West Ham in East London.
Despite being far from their best the Gunners managed to make the game look comfortable after suffering a shaky start to the second half which saw them fall behind to a Carlton Cole goal, only for a brace from Theo Walcott and a goal from the returning Lukas Podolski to claim the 3 points.
Szczesny – 5 – was at fault for West Ham’s goal after spilling a shot which was straight at him. Other than that mishap, had very little to do all afternoon.
Sagna – 6 – not his greatest game. Was not great offensively, and defensively allowed Matt Jarvis too much time.
Mertesacker – 7 – defended admirably as usual, barely putting a foot wrong

Last night’s match against Chelsea was billed by some as the most important league game Arsenal had played at the Emirates. Whilst I think this might be a slight exaggeration, there can be no doubt that the game was of high importance.
Wet and Windy
Had it not been for the immaculate nature of the pitch at the Emirates there is a high chance that the game would not have been played. The weather in north London had been appalling in the run up to the game and this did not change as the 22 players battled through monsoon conditions on the nights.
The conditions meant we were treated to a large amount of wayward balls especially from Arteta to Walcott. On more than one occasion the young winger was visibly upset with the quality of the balls from the midfield. Hopefully we can definitely put this down to the wind.
