Arsenal get the three points in a fairly comfortable away win. Arsenal went one nil up thanks to a wonderful header by Sanchez. Arsenal dominated the ball for large parts of the game but failed to score the second. Defoe converted a penalty to level the match after a foul by Cech. However, super sub Giroud came off the bench and scored with each of his first two touches before Sanchez rounded the scoring off.
Cech – 6 – Didn’t have a lot to do but was calm throughout.
Bellerin – 7 – Went forward to good effect and play well defensively.
Mustafi – 7 – Played well for most of the game but it was his error which led to the penalty.
Koscielny – 6 – Played okay.
Gibbs – 7 – Fairly nervy start but grew into the game. Was very good going forward and grabbed an assist.
Coquelin – 7 – Played really well in the centre of midfield doing his usual defensive duties.
Elneny – 8 – Elneny was excellent throughout and was involved in all the excellent Arsenal moves.
Oxlade – Chamberlain – 7 – Played well and grabbed an assist for the first goal with a wonderful cross.
Ӧzil – 7 – Fairly quiet throughout the game but should have scored at least one goal today.
Iwobi -6 – Off the pace for most of the match but did have a couple of chances.
Sanchez – 9 –Sanchez was excellent all afternoon and scored two goals for his efforts. He terrorised the Sunderland defence and won the ball up the pitch on numerous occasions.
Subs
Giroud – 8 – Came off the bench and grabbed a brace. Giroud showed his importance to this team as a different option.
Ramsey – 7 - Returned from injury and grabbed an assist for the fourth goal.
Maitland – Niles – N/A – Didn’t have any time to influence the game.
Overall, an important three points in the end and great character was shown. In recent years the equaliser would have made Arsenal crumble. Arsenal move temporarily up to first but greater challenges lie ahead in the form of Spurs and Manchester United.
