Per Mertesacker and Mesut Ozil are now doubts for this weekend’s game with Sunderland due to ‘illness‘.

As Per usual

Bacary Sagna had been looked upon to fill in for the injured defenders in previous games, and now the Frenchman is likely to have to do the same.

Although Sagna performed fantastically in games such as the one away at Fulham, the right-back is no match for the partnership formed by Koscielny and Mertesacker.

Arsenal head north-east for their first league game outside of London this season on Saturday in high spirits.

On the back of four convincing wins in all competitions, and the club record signing of German superstar Mesut Ozil, the side will arrive in Sunderland riding a wave of optimism.

The Form Guide

Recent form undoubtedly favours the red and white of London. Arsenal have won their last six away games, and were victorious in an heroic battle with the Mackems in their last encounter, in February of this year.

A depleted Arsenal squad face an epic trip to Sunderland in this week’s Premier League clash, in the hope that Mesut Ozil will make his English debut in after his big money move.

Ozil is in line to replace Tomas Rosicky after the midfielder limped off during the Czech Republic’s game with Italy, with the German being a like-for-like switch in the middle of the park.

Sick note city

Rosicky joined a long list of the walking wounded after his international adventures, joining Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Gedion Zelalem, Mikel Arteta, Abou Diaby, Lukas Podolski and Yaya Sanogo on the sidelines.

Tomas Rosicky and Yaya Sanogo have joined the long list of Arsenal men out for this weekend’s clash with Sunderland.

Sanogo, on the same day that he vowed to “toughen up” in order to be a success in the Premier League, was injured while on international duty with France while Rosicky was substituted in the first half of the Czech Republic’s game with Italy.

It’s a no-go

20-year-old new signing Yaya Sanogo was away with the French U21 squad playing Kazakhstan when he picked up a back injury which will require “extensive treatment”, meaning he will play no part in the weekend game with Sunderland, and leaving Arsene Wenger with just 1 fit senior striker at the club.

Frenchman Mathieu Flamini who rejoined Arsenal from AC Milan after his departure back in 2008 has claimed he is better than ever as he looks to work his way back into the Gunner' set up.

Flamini played 153 times in all competitions with the North London side during his 4 seasons in England after Arsene Wenger took him from Ligue 1 side Marseille. He even managed 8 goals during his time in the Gunners’ red, the same amount he scored while with Milan.

Making 122 appearances with the Serie A giants, Flamini has also spoken of how Arsene Wenger himself was the man to entice him back to the Emirates:
