Arsene Wenger has given the usual team news ahead of Arsenal's clash with Reading on Monday night, with a couple of key absentees returning to the fold as the Gunners look to bounce back (again) from the supreme embarrassment of Tuesday night.

The French are coming

Olivier Giroud is fit for selection after his back problem kept him out against Bradford, as confirmed by the man himself on Twitter.

His return will be welcome following the performances of various centre-forward replacements in his absence.

Meanwhile Laurent Koscielny defied the odds by returning from a three-week injury after, well, three weeks.

As part of an attempt to tie down their new English core of young players, Arsenal are discussing new contracts with a number of players, including Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Kieran Gibbs and Theo Walcott, though the latter of course has hit a large snag.

These reports surfaced a while ago, but little seems to have occurred, leading to fears that another set of contract sagas would ensue.

However, some headway has now been made and there could be a storm of new contracts.

Ramsey

The much-maligned Welshman is still highly rated by Arsenal insiders, who believe he is simply lacking confidence.

The Barclays Premier League recently conducted a fan poll on the best player playing in the league right now, the best player to have ever played and the best prospect for the next 5 years.

Arsenal players both current and former naturally made an appearance in most categories.

Bring on the Ox

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain was somewhat surprisingly voted the most promising future prospect, with 17 percent of the vote, while Jack Wilshere, who seems the more likely candidate, receiving 13 percent and coming second.

According to DailyMail Arsenal are interested in bringing in Manchester United's Nani, who has been frozen out recently over a contract dispute (sound familiar?).

The Portuguese international has been on and off for United over the years, but it's suggested he's be an improvement over Gervinho, which is true.

Looks can be deceiving

After this story was published a set of pictures surfaced of Nani visiting a training ground, supposedly that of Arsenal's. He appeared to be signing autographs for children. But what was he doing there? Isn't it illegal for a player under contract to visit a training ground to discuss a move outside the transfer window?

Yes, yes it is. And Nani wasn't even at Colney.

You can't move these days without seeing an article talking about how Arsenal are close to tying up a deal for Dutch striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, with French newspaper L'Equipe being the latest to suggest the Schalke poacher is on the way to London.

There are a range of opinions about Huntelaar, with some seeing these rumours as a smokescreen for Atletico's Adrian Lopez, while others think it's a dead cert.

Positives

The Dutchman is certainly clinical in the box, as shown by his two goals against Arsenal this season.
