Reliable French source L’Equipe have claimed that Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger will step up his pursuit of 21-year-old French striker Paul-Georges Ntep in January.

Olivier Giroud has led the line all but on his own so far this season with Nicklas Bendtner proving to be a useless back up, and youngsters Chuba Akpom, Benik Afobe, Joel Campbell and Yaya Sanogo all either injured or on loan, so a striker seems to be the most likely import this winter.

Despite a long list of names being mentioned for potential moves – including Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema, Manchester City’s Edin Dzeko and United’s Javier Hernandez – Wenger is likely to go back to his age-old technique of buying cheap after splashing the cash in the Summer.

Arsenal have been linked with a move for Torino attacker and Italian international Alessio Cerci with Football Italia reporting that scouts from various Premier League clubs will be watching the former Fiorentina man in action currently against Nigeria at Craven Cottage.

Cerci has been sensational in Serie A this season finding the net eight times in eleven starts, and one substitute appearance, and creating three goals for team mates.

According to the Daily Star, Manchester United are also interested in the player that has been used as a second striker this season but is equally adept as a winger as well.

David Moyes is interested in making a move for him in January but Wenger could steal a march on his rival and attempt to sign the 26-year-old under the noise of the Red Devil boss.

Arsenal midfield star Mesut Ozil will miss his country’s friendly with England on Tuesday after coach Joachim Loew claimed that he will allow his to rest.

Ozil will sit out the clash along with Bayern Munich duo Manuel Neuer and Phillip Lahm as all three played in the San Siro on Friday.

Neuer and Lahm completed the full 90 and Ozil just over half an hour as the Germans dominated against a strong Italy side, scoring in the 8th minute and hitting the woodwork 3 times in the 1-1 draw.

And coach Loew has now claimed he will send the trio home in order to test out some new tactics before the build-up to the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

Arsenal winger Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will almost certainly miss the remainder of the 2013 season with the knee injury that he picked up on the first day of the season against Villa.

The 20-year-old has not played since the 3-1 defeat at the Emirates, when he was substituted after assisting Olivier Giroud’s opening goal, however the injury is taking longer than expected to heal according to The Sunday People.

The Ox will not be allowed to train with the Gunners until the middle of December, making it almost a certainty that he will not pull on the red strip again in 2013.

Oxlade-Chamberlain has made 60 appearances for Arsenal since his move as a 17-year-old from Southampton in 2011, earning himself an impressive 13 senior England caps to go with 12 caps at U18, 19 and 21 levels.

In the past week Arsenal have confirmed their title credentials, beating an in-form Liverpool side and last season’s Champions League finalists, Borussia Dortmund, and, most significantly, keeping a clean sheet on both occasions.

After facing accusations of failing to beat the ‘big teams’, accusations that increased as a result of the home defeat to Chelsea in the Capital One Cup, Arsenal have proven they are a match for any side in Europe.

On Sunday comes the acid test however. Old Trafford has not been a happy hunting ground for Arsene Wenger’s side in recent years, with the 1-0 victory in 2006 the last time Arsenal returned to London with three points. Beating United is often seen as the benchmark of a successful side and, in each of Arsenal’s title winning seasons, they came home with a positive result.
