As a reward for beating West Brom on penalties, Arsenal are set to face Chelsea at the Emirates in the next round of the Worthington, Carling, Capital One Cup on Tuesday.

Arsenal will be hoping to continue their phenomenal form and progress to the next round, while getting a further look at some of the younger talent at the club.

Recent History (the only type Chelsea have)

The last time these clubs faced each other in the League Cup was one to forget for the Gunners. The 2007 final saw Chelsea come out as champions after a 2-1 victory thanks to a Drogba brace in Cardiff. Arsenal’s opener was Theo Walcott’s first goal for the club. He and Diaby are also the only players from the squad that day to still play for Arsenal.

After a promising start to the season, it was announced today that Arsenal’s German starlet Serge Gnabry has put pen to paper on a new long-term deal at the club, renewing his first professional contract signed in 2012.

Gnabry, whose father hails from the Ivory Coast, first signed for the North London club for £100,000 in 2010, though had to wait until his sixteenth birthday the following year to officially join the club.

If there were a game that Arsene Wenger would have wanted to ease the team back into the flow of things after a midweek defeat at Dortmund; it would be a managerless Crystal Palace.

A win will see the gunners maintain their position at the top of the table. In the form that we have been in, anything other than 3 points would be a massive disappointment.

Injury News

Mathieu Flamini is set to return from the concussion that left him unavailable to face Dortmund, while Jack Wilshere is will face an injury test in the morning to determine the state of his ankle.

Last year’s Wembley Champions League runners-up Borussia Dortmund travel to the Emirates in an attempt to cancel-out the 3 point deficit struck on them after their opening game defeat to Napoli.

Arsenal’s unbeaten start to the Champions League puts them top of the table with 6 points after resounding victories over Italy’s Napoli and France’s Marseille, whereas Dortmund’s 3-0 win against the French side are the sole points gained so far in the competition.

Arsenal continue to sit pretty at the precipice of the Premier League after yet another storming display this time against Norwich. The Canaries were no match for Arsene Wenger’s side as Mesut Ozil grabbed his first Premiership goal with a brace at the Emirates.

When Arsenal found out who their group opponents were to be in the Champions League, all eyes were immediately drawn to this fixture. Runners up in last year’s Champions League, Arsenal knew that the Germans would, most likely, prove to be their biggest test.

Arsenal currently sit top of Group F with a 100% record, though with Dortmund and Napoli both ready to pounce at any slip up, the Gunners cannot afford to be complacent. However, despite the emphatic win against Norwich at the weekend, the Germans will prove to be a much sterner test, in the first of a double header.

Team News

Despite being a very good all round performance against Norwich on Saturday, it was not all cheers for the Gunners. Mathieu Flamini, who left the Emirates at the weekend with concussion, will not play. This is a huge blow for Arsenal, for as good as Ozil and Ramsey have been, Flamini has been immense, with his contribution as a defensive rock in the midfield has allowed them to express their creativity.
