Arsenal have registered a surprise interest in West Ham United centre-back Winston Reid.

The New Zealand defender has been impressive for the Hammers as they finished the Premier League campaign, their first since promotion, in tenth place. West Ham’s mean defence was a large factor in this, and Reid stood out as a key part.

Backup

The interest was confirmed by Tor-Kristian Karlsen, a former chief scout and sporting director with information from around the footballing world.

The potential transfer of Stevan Jovetic appears to have hit a snag over the transfer fee. Arsenal do not value the forward at his €30m release clause and are aiming to complete the deal for around £20-22m.

This represents a difference of around £3m in the valuation of the player.

Options

Arsenal are therefore scouting out the possibility of signing a different striker instead of the Montenegrin, who is apparently also keen on moving to Juventus, as he would prefer to remain in Italy.

The free transfer of Auxerre’s Yaya Sanogo will not be quite as free as it appears.

The 20 year-old forward will join Arsenal at the end of the season (July) after his contract expires with the Ligue 2 side, but due to his being under 23 Arsenal must pay compensation for him.

The amount will be decided by a tribunal nearer to the time, but will likely be around £0.5m.

20 year-old German goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen has turned down an approach from Arsenal in the hope of securing a dream transfer to Barcelona.

The young player has been one of the Bundesliga’s standout ‘keepers for Borussia Mönchengladbach, and has attracted interest from Inter Milan as well.

However, Barcelona have him lined up as the successor to Victor Valdes and could make a move this summer, although no business will be done until manager Tito Vilanova returns from his cancer treatment next month.

Arsenal have put in an official bid for Stevan Jovetic, according to Italian press. The Montenegrin forward has been chased for over a year, but Arsenal have finally materialised their interest into something concrete.

Fiorentina currently have a bid on the table from Arsenal worth 30m, the release clause. This equates to around £24.5m, which would exceed Arsenal’s transfer record by nearly £10m.
