Arsenal legend Dennis Bergkamp has said that he hopes one day to work as part of the club’s coaching team.

However, speaking to the Daily Telegraph, Bergkamp – currently an assistant coach with Ajax, the club with whom he started his playing career – said that he does not fancy becoming a manager.

The Dutch playmaker, who won three Premier League titles and four FA Cups during his 11 years with the Gunners, says he has the same strong affinity for Arsenal (and English football) that his fellow Dutchman Johan Cruyff had for Barcelona:

“At Arsenal it was a good click. I always enjoyed it. I never had a bad day there. It is always on my mind. It is part of my ambition to come back at some stage… I don’t see myself being at Ajax for the rest of my coaching career. I don’t see myself as a manager. I see myself as being part of the coaching staff. I really enjoy that role, especially the individual training with the strikers.

More praise for Arsenal’s £42 million club record signing Mesut Özil from senior footballers who know a thing or two about playing in midfield.

Özil’s Germany midfield partner – and a former teammate at Real Madrid – Sami Khedira and Gunners legend Dennis Bergkamp have both spoken glowingly of the new signing’s talents.  Khedira called Özil a “genius“, with Bergkamp settling for “tremendous“.

Khedira is close to Özil from their time with Madrid and Germany, and Khedira has previously criticised Real for allowing the playmaker to leave for the Emirates. He believes Özil can drive Arsenal on to become the best team in England, saying:

Disappointing news for Arsenal fans today: first-choice right back Bacary Sagna appears likely to leave the club on a free transfer when his contract expires next summer.

The Daily Mail reports that the 30-year-old France international – who joined the Gunners from Auxerre in 2007 – is hoping to substantially increase his current £60,000 a week deal, which was signed in 2008.

Arsenal are apparently yet to offer Sagna a new deal, instead proposing a one-year extension to his existing terms. Sagna, who can also play at centre back, deems this unacceptable – particularly in view of his previous rejection of lucrative offers from Real Madrid and Manchester City.

Arsenal remain strongly linked to Schalke ’04 midfielder Julian Draxler after the “wünderkid” continues to light up the Bundesliga.

Draxler has hit 3 goals in 12 this season, all of them coming in European competition as Schalke top their Champions’ League group ahead of Chelsea. He also hit 13 goals in 39 games last season, as well as scoring for Germany against the USA in a 4-3 defeat in Washington.

Forcing the issue

The 20-year-old was heavily linked with Arsenal in the summer window, however passed along with a host of other names as the loyal support became restless with the lack of imports. All was forgotten with the signing of Mesut Ozil, a transfer that even the most “in-the-know” of people would not have foreseen, and thus Draxler speculation was largely bypassed.

German international forward Lukas Podolski is nearing a return from the injury that has kept him out of action for two months.

Podolski scored twice against Fulham at Craven Cottage in August before limping from the field in a Champions League qualifier at the Emirates with a hamstring problem.

At the time, Arsenal’s injury crisis was at its peak and the layoff to Podolski was yet another nail in the Emirates coffin.

However since, the emergence of Aaron Ramsey and Jack Wilshere’s regaining of fitness has boosted the Arsenal midfield, not to mention the added bonus of a certain former Real Madrid man.
