Costa Rica’s World Cup hero Joel Campbell is to be handed his big shot at Arsenal after impressing Arsene Wenger during his country’s 3-1 win over Uruguay on Saturday.

Campbell has been on loan at Olympiakos in Greece last season, where he made the headlines for scoring against Manchester United in the Champions League knockout stages, and his man of the match display in the Group D clash has only helped his cause.

Campbell is yet to represent Arsenal at senior level but has impressed in spells at Lorient, Real Betis and finally the Greek champions. Although he was just 18th in the Greek League’s top scorers standing with 8 goals, Campbell also contributed 9 assists while playing next to now Fulham man Costas Mitroglou.

The scouting search begins at the Emirates this week as Belgian defender Thomas Vermaelen looks a dead cert to join Manchester United.

Vermaelen has been kept out of the side consistently since the win at Bayern Munich in March last year, where the Koscielny-Mertesacker partnership was born, and the solid duo haven’t looked back since. The two recently went two years without losing a game in which both completed the full 90, giving Vermaelen no opportunity to recover from his niggling injuries and return to the first eleven.

Costa Rica forward Joel Campbell lit up the World Cup yesterday with a stunning display against Uruguay and has confirm where he expects to play his football next season.

Campbell spent last season on loan at Olympiakos and has been away from the Emirates for the past three campaigns plying his trade in other countries due to visa issues which have now resolved.

Campbell to return?

The 21-year-old’s future remains unknown but he has opened the door for a return to London, although he did concede it won’t be decided until after the World Cup.

A report circulating in the Spanish press today is that Carlos Vela will not be returning to Arsenal. This is after Arsenal agreed to sell their clause for £8.8 million. This therefore, means that Real Sociedad will own the entire player without any buy back clauses.

This is another player along with Cesc Fabregas and Diego Costa that you can cross of Arsene Wenger’s shopping spree.  This is good business by Arsenal as Carlos Vela doesn’t want to return anyway and most Arsenal fans are undecided.

Additionally, Arsenal have received money from Barcelona for the sale of Cesc Fabregas meaning that Arsenal have made a staggering £14.4 million on two previous players which we sold.

Arsenal have signed German fitness coach Shad Forsythe. Forsythe will join long standing fitness coach Tony Colbert. Forsythe has been brought into try and reduce the amount of injuries that Arsenal get each season.

It is believed that the players keep getting injuries when they are with the fitness coach. John Cross said at the last AST meeting stated that the club doctor and Physio are fantastic.

Forsythe has been with the German national team for 10 years after been appointed by Jurgen Klinsmann and it is hoped that he will change recovery methods so that the players stay fit after returning.

This is great move by Arsenal and shows they are addressing one of the key issues from recent seasons. Forsythe comes with a reputation after working with the German national squad and will hopefully benefit Arsenal.
