Arsenal's pursuit of David Villa has gone quiet in recent weeks, but this morning newspapers both Spanish and English reported that Arsenal have been boosted by his newfound conviction to leave Barcelona before the transfer window closes.

According Sport.es, a Barcelona-favouring sports paper in Spain, Villa held a meeting with Tito Vilanova in which he stated frankly that he wanted to be elsewhere.

His usage in the team has not increased, despite appearing with two goals in a recent game with Celta Vigo.

With both the Gunners and Chelsea performing below expectations in the league this season, both sides will be looking for a win at the Bridge tomorrow.

Homesick…

One worry Chelsea fans might have ahead of tomorrow’s game is that since Benitez took over, their home form has been less than impressive.  Since The Blues’ remarkable 8-0 victory over Villa last year, they have been unable to win a home game.

Arsenal have failed to win in two Premier League games since the 7-3 demolition of Newcastle.  However, unlike Chelsea, we did manage to win our mid week game showing some promising signs of a faster brand of football returning to the club.

The moment Walcott put pen to paper with Arsenal F.C. and extended his stint with the club was supposed to be a joyous moment. However, it was met with a lot of mixed reactions from the fans…

The Good

Arsene Wenger: ‘We are all delighted that Theo has signed a new contract. He joined us as a 16-year-old and since then has developed very well to become an extremely important player for both Arsenal F.C. and England.’

Piers Morgan: ‘BOOM! Thank you for your loyalty Theo’

Ryan (comment under Sky Sports’ article on Walcott’s signing): ‘How many 23 year olds are on 14 goals this season????? Not many if any, get real you Arsenal haters; he’s a great striker!! Well worth 100 grand a week!’

After months of worrying for Arsenal fans, top scorer Theo Walcott has finally put pen to paper to sign a new contract with the Gunners.

Theo’s new deal, which keeps him at the club for the next three and a half years, is believed to be worth £100,000 per week, and included a £3 million signing on fee, which makes him the highest paid player at Arsenal now.

Good News

Arsenal fans will be relieved to hear the news, after losing Robin Van Persie and Mathieu Flamini in recent years over the board’s failure to offer them good enough contracts. This fear seemed set to become reality again when Arsenal announced the signing of new deals by the other young British players of Wilshere, Ramsey, Gibbs, Jenkinson and Oxlade-Chamberlain, though thankfully the forward has now joined them in staying at the Emirates for the foreseeable future.

Replicating the exploits of a striker of Robin van Persie's quality was never going to be an easy feat. The Dutchman netted an astonishing 37 times for Arsenal last season, with his goals vital to the Gunners third place finish in the Premiership.

While manager Arsene Wenger brought in Lukas Podolski and Olivier Giroud to counteract the loss of the 29-year-old, a return of 19 goals in all competitions between the duo is evident that the Frenchman is yet to fully replace the now Manchester United star, and it's beginning to show this season.
