This afternoon BBC Sport reporter Ben Smith tweeted that Liverpool have enquired about the services of three high profile forwards but were told they have “no chance” of signing them.

The three forwards mentioned were Monaco’s Radamel Falcao, Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema and Paris Saint-Germain’s Edinson Cavani.

Arsenal are set to make at least one more signing before the transfer window closes and Sky Sports reporter Jim White is “certain” it will be a big name.

The figurehead for Sky Sports transfer deadline day coverage was taking part in a question and answer session on Twitter and replied to a tweet asking him if Arsenal were expected to make any more transfer before the window shuts.

Although White didn’t list any names his insistence that the Gunners will buy somebody will surely raise excitement amongst fans at the Emirates.

The French defender has been struggling for fitness after coming off in Sunday’s 3-0 victory over Manchester City in the Community Shield and many feared he would miss the first few games of the new Premier League campaign.

Koscielny back in training

However, the Daily Mail report the experienced defender has returned to full training and is now expected to be fit for the Gunners season-opener against Crystal Palace.

Arsene Wenger was facing a dilemma who to play in central defence with Per Mertesacker only returning to pre-season training on Monday after his excursions with Germany during the World Cup.

Arsenal could be set to pull off a remarkable transfer with reports suggest the Gunners have made a £51 million bid for Edinson Cavani.

The Paris Saint-Germain forward is being eyed up by Arsene Wenger as the forward to lead their challenge for glory on a number of fronts in the 2014/15 season.

If di Maria moves to PSG…

The Daily Express reported that esteemed Spanish journalist Kike Marin believes the Gunners could capture the signature of the Uruguay forward should PSG sign Real Madrid’s Angel di Maria.

Atletico Madrid defender Toby Alderweireld could be set to leave the Spanish club on loan, according to his father who acts as his agent.

The Belgian central defender only moved to Atletico last season from Ajax but struggled to obtain a starting role and only featured 12 times.

Alderweireld set for loan

He has previously been linked with a move to Arsenal, Tottenham and Liverpool and the latest comments from Vic Alderweireld will interest Gunners boss Arsene Wenger.
