Arsenal hope to see off a tricky opponent in Besiktas when they visit the Emirates. Last week, having played out a 0-0 draw in Turkey, Arsenal have it all to play for in the second leg.

Arsenal will be without the services of a few key players. Olivier Giroud picked up a knock in the closing stages of a 2-2 draw against Everton in which he provided an equalizing goal in the dying seconds. Arsene Wenger has said Giroud will meet with a specialist in the coming days amid rumors he could face a 3 month spell on the sidelines.

This could be a cause of concern for Arsene Wenger as he looks to be short in his attacking options. Yaya Sanogo is recovering from a hamstring problem and could face a race against time to be fit for the all-important clash. Theo Walcott is still out injured but could make a return to the squad next week against Leicester in the Premier League.

Arsenal are closing in on the signing of Alessio Cerci from Torino in an attempt to reinforce the attacking options of the side.

Wenger is said to be desperate to land a striker before the transfer window slams shut on September 1st, especially with Olivier Giroud out injured for up to 3 months and Lukas Podolski set for a move away from the Emirates.

Premier League recruits such as Welbeck, Remy and Bony have all been mentioned as potential investments to the Gunners squad however reports from Italy have claimed that wideman Cerci is Wenger’s number one target having missed out on Mario Balotelli to Liverpool.

In the wake of Arsenal’s current striker crisis, Borussia Dortmund manager Jurgen Klopp has expressed his confidence that star man Marco Reus will sign a new contract with the Bundesliga club.

Frontman Olivier Giroud will face up to 3 months on the sidelines thanks to what looks to be an ankle injury sustained when Everton’s Sylvain Distin cannoned the ball off the striker’s standing leg in the dying moments of our 2-2 draw at Goodison.

Striker Shortage

And while Yaya Sanogo remains in the centre-forward position, many would be quick to say he is not at the level the Gunners need to mount a title challenge. Alexis Sanchez failed to impress in the role at the weekend, along with Joel Campbell who both prefer a wider berth.

Rumours that Arsenal are in “deep” talks for William Carvalho have surfaced again over in Portugal, with newspaper O Jogo claiming that Sporting Lisbon have dropped their valuation of the young star.

Arsenal have been constantly linked with the 22-year-old and there have supposedly been constant negotiations for over a month now, seemingly rendering the deal dead in the water as far as the wanting fans are concerned.

Aaron Ramsey and Olivier Giroud goals deny Everton victory as Arsenal fight back to maintain their unbeaten start to the season.

Mathieu Flamini:

"We'll say it's a great performance because we were 2-0 down. It was great spirit from the boys because it was not easy.

"At half-time the manager said there was space to create opportunities and we believed we could do it.

"We have learned a lot from last year from when we were playing against these top teams. We didn't give up until the last second and that was important. This is a game to remember for us."

Arsene Wenger:

"We have a great response with complete desire to come back and the spirit was fantastic.

"In the end we got back to 2-2 and we got a strong point but a deserved one if you look at the chances we had, especially in the second half. We came back very late but our spirit got us a point.

"It shows the belief and the resilience is there. The second goal was offside but we took it on the chin and came back."

Roberto Martinez:

"We ran out of energy and it became a feeling of wanting the game to end. We are not that sort of side that's not the way we play.

"I was delighted with the performance for 80 minutes I thought the first half was phenomenal. We'll make sure going forward we make it a 90-minute performance."
