With Southampton right-back Calum Chambers set to move to the Emirates Stadium for a reported £16 million, Arsenal manager Arsène Wenger has admitted that he is taking a big risk by signing the player.

BBC Sport confirmed that personal terms have been agreed and a medical has been passed. This means that Chambers is set to meet up with his new teammates at the traditional Austrian training camp this week.

A big gamble

Wenger revealed during a media event in New York that although there is big money surrounding the 19-year-olds signing, the move is a gamble that can pay-off in the long term.

Reports have emerged today that young right-back Carl Jenkinson is set to leave Arsenal, after the arrivals of Mathieu Debuchy and Calum Chambers have put his short-term future in jeopardy.

Come to the city

It has been alleged that Hull City, who Arsenal defeated in the FA Cup final last season, are interested in taking the player on loan, after comments from Steve Bruce this week.

The Daily Mail quote the Hull manager claiming that,

Southampton’s Calum Chambers completes Arsenal transfer for a reported fee of 10 million plus add ons which could make the deal worth £16 million.

The deal is expected to be announced tomorrow and will play back up to Debuchy but will also be Arsenal’s 4th choice centre back.

The information comes from the reliable BBC journalist David Ornstein;

Chambers expected to be announced on Mon, will join Austria camp. Ospina fee about £3m & #AFC still in market for DMF + DF if Vermaelen goes”

I am personally excited about the deal for Chambers. I have seen him play a few times and he looks fantastic.

Jack Wilshere has come and apologised for his latest controversy which has seen him smoking for the second time.

However, Wilshere spoke about the incident from Arsenal’s training camp in New York.

“I made a mistake then, and I made a mistake again – people make mistakes. I’m young and I’ll learn from it. I realise the consequences it has and the effect it has on the kids growing up. It’s unacceptable. I’ll accept the consequences and move on.”

For the most part, when February strikes, the official Arsenal blip has caused the sides title challenge to come crumbling down after much positivity and optimism.

Revitalising Plans

With injuries galore hampering the Gunners progress, it has been suggested expletively to Arsène Wenger in the stands that he should spend some…money.

However, with the record signing of Mesut Özil last summer revitalising the first-team squad, it seems as though the clubs hierarchy have changed their mind of the direction of which they must acquire players.
