For large swathes of the season it appeared as though Arsenal may be on the brink of something momentous. Top of the table as recently as February and playing with strength and confidence in all tournaments, the possibilities seemed endless. Defensive partnerships were resolute, the midfield functioned beautifully and Giroud was scoring goals. Honestly. He was.
Tricky matches against lower league opposition were negotiated with a routine simplicity unseen for many a season. Arsenal fans, pessimistic, cynical and wounded by previous mid season collapses, found a collective belief and roared encouragement at their favourites, home and abroad.
This year, surely this year.
But again, yet again, the season has caved in, epitomised most clearly in the spiritless performance at Goodison last Sunday, as previously dynamic players meandered around the pitch with odd indifference and a chronic lack of purpose.

According to Metro, Arsenal show their interest in Everton defender John Stones, despite the Gunners present battle with the Merseyside based club for fourth spot in the league.

Arsène Wenger has confirmed that prodigal Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere has stepped up his rehabilitation to put himself in the frame to help the Gunners with their final games of the season.
Not giving in
Wilshere, who suffered a broken bone in his foot during England’s friendly with Denmark last month, is ahead of schedule and could be fit in time for Arsenal’s key clash at the KC Stadium against Hull in two weeks time.

Ivory Coast international Serge Aurier has revealed that he is interested in a move to Arsenal to replace the out of contract French right-back Bacary Sagna.
Ivorian Interest
The 21-year old defender has helped his Toulouse side to eighth place in Ligue 1 this season, alerting Arsène Wenger of his availability with his recent comments to the media.
Sources revealed that while the Gunners are set to open the bidding at approximately £7.5 million, Toulouse will hold out for a fee closer to £12 million.

Yesterday Santi Cazorla had spoken out to the press about when Arsenal's title hopes had vanished and what his view was on the current squad.
The Spaniard was quoted:
"The defeat against Stoke finished us. You can't lose against Stoke if you aspire to be the next champion...we have to improve at crucial moments and sign the best football players because if you don't do that, you may lag behind others".
Apart from his criticism on the current squad losing out on title hopes when they received a big blow to Stoke, the player then had an interview with Abu Dhabi based website Sport360.com and came out stating he learnt a lot more under Pellegrini.
