Several reports on Sunday night have hinted that Real Madrid playmaker Mesut Ozil will be joining Arsenal before Monday night’s transfer deadline.

Canal + suggested that the German will join Arsenal rather than PSG or Man Utd in a bid to further his career after seemingly fallen down the pecking order at Real after the arrivals of Isco and Gareth Bale, a claim supported by Al Jazeera, for whom Arsene Wenger works as a pundit.

Why leave Real?

There are many reasons why Ozil, left on the bench against Athletic Bilbao on Sunday afternoon, may leave.

Arsenal are interested in bringing German wonderkid Julian Draxler to the Emirates, as pressure mounts on Arsene Wenger to spend some of the cash in reserve.

That is the view of John Cross of the Daily Mirror, he adds that although Wenger isn’t totally convinced, the Arsenal board are forcing him to accept that it is worth bidding  £40 million for the Schalke midfielder.

Champions League qualification

It has been suggested in many quarters that players were waiting to see if Arsenal would qualify for the Champions League before committing to signing for the club, was Draxler one of those players?

The North London derby is without doubt the biggest game in both of these clubs calendars, and always the first fixture fans look for when the fixture list is revealed.

It is a game both sets of supporters expect their teams to win, which only adds to the intense atmosphere of games.

If you had asked an Arsenal fans thoughts on this match in the aftermath of the Villa game then the outlook would not have been pretty; but despite only Flamini returning to the club on a free transfer since, the Gunners form has certainly improved drastically since the opening day of the season.

In what would be the most sensational move of the transfer window, and one of the biggest transfer coups in history, Arsene Wenger is plotting a £70million move for Madrid trio Mesut Ozil, Karim Benzema and Angel di Maria. (according to today’s widespread reports)

Madrid will look to get back part of the £85million they are spending on Gareth Bale in an attempt to balance the financial books this summer, and Arsenal’s entire transfer budget would have to be spent in order to rescue their unsuccessful summer window.

Arsenal have enquired about the availability of Borussia Dortmund midfielder Ilkay Gundogan.

After Manchester United failed in their bid for the German international earlier in the summer, Arsenal look hopeful after tabling £20million for the 2012 Champions League runner-up.

Gundogan would provide depth to a midfield struggling with injuries, as well as fulfilling the fans wanting for reinvestment in the summer window. Able to play any role in centre midfield, Gundogan is well known for his creativity as well as being able to tackle and be a physical presence.
