According to reports from the Daily Mirror, Arsenal are yet open discussions over a contract extension for left-back Kieran Gibbs.

Gibbs broke into the Arsenal first team back in the 2007/08 Premier League campaign as a teenager and at the time, many had touted the left-back to become a mainstay in the Gunners starting lineup due to his immense potential.

Almost a decade on from his debut for Arsenal, Gibbs has gone on to amass well over 200 appearances for the North London giants but there is a feeling that the Englishman has not quite been able to fulfill his promise so far.

Veteran defender Per Mertesacker has revealed that he has finally returned to full training by posting a message on social media website Twitter.

It seems almost customary for Arsenal to go through an injury crisis and the Gunners were certainly struggling for numbers in defence heading into the current Premier League campaign.

Due to numerous injuries, manager Arsene Wenger was forced to field inexperienced duo Calum Chambers and Rob Holding as the central defensive partnership in the league opener against Liverpool at the Emirates Stadium and the Gunners’ backline was completely torn apart on the day.

As quoted by the Liverpool Echo, Arsenal attacker Theo Walcott has gone on to suggest that Everton are struggling at the moment as they are not working hard enough for manager Ronald Koeman.

Arsenal managed to keep pace with Chelsea at the top of the Premier League table with a 3-1 victory over Stoke City during the weekend and the Gunners will now be looking to momentarily leapfrog the Blues at the summit by claiming another three points when they square off against Everton at Goodison Park tonight.

Everton are a good side but following a fine start to the season, they are currently on a terrible run of having claimed only one victory from their last ten matches and it would be fair to state that Arsenal head into the clash on Tuesday night as overwhelming favourites.

Speaking to Arsenal’s official website, Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has categorically stated that he intends to keep hold of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain for the foreseeable future.

Arsenal certainly took a leap of faith by splashing close to £15 million to secure the services of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain from Southampton back in 2011 and given the sizeable investment, manager Arsene Wenger was most certainly expecting big things from the then teenager.

Five years on, Oxlade-Chamberlain has by no means been a poor signing for Arsenal but it would be fair to state that the attacker has not developed as quickly as the North London side would have wanted to. That said, Oxlade-Chamberlain is only 23 and the attacker has been in very good form during the current campaign.

Speaking to Arsenal’s official website, manager Arsene Wenger has stated that he does not share the views of Pep Guardiola that teams should be allowed to make six substitutions during a game.

Pep Guardiola is most certainly a revolutionary manager and his innovative ideals since moving into management back in 2008 has affected modern football in a very positive manner.

Guardiola has led the likes of Barcelona and Bayern Munich to unprecedented success over the years and although he has not enjoyed the best of starts at Manchester City, the Citizens do seem to be heading in the right direction.
