The season has well and truly begun as Arsenal’s Champions League journey starts with a familiar opponent, Borussia Dortmund. They don’t come much harder as Dortmund are seen as Arsenal’s main opponents for top spot in a group that could provide a few surprises.

Here we go again

In recent times, Arsenal and Borussia Dortmund have something of a rivalry in Europe’s biggest competition as they have been pitted together in the same group on three occasions in the past four years.

The dust of a frantic deadline day and an insignificant international break finally settling, Arsenal have a task on their hands against the reigning champions at home. Last year, this fixture brought out a draw but the memory of a 6-3 defeat at the Etihad last season will still remain fresh in fans minds.

Arsenal team news

Unlike previous international breaks, the Arsenal team has come through relatively untroubled. Mesut Ozil, Mikel Arteta, Laurent Koscielny and Kieran Gibbs are all match fit and will provide Arsene Wenger with a selection headache, which is always welcome.

Arsenal’s new goalkeeper David Ospina has finally returned from his injury but will provide cover for Wojciech Szczesny from the bench.

The last fortnight has been agony. As an Arsenal fan, I am used to watching fast, free-flowing football combining supreme passing and mesmeric movement with beautiful goals.

The international break usually gives me the opportunity to experience what it must be like to be a Spurs fan. – Pointless matches with little to no chance of winning anything meaningful. Over-priced and underperforming players, wearing a boring white shirt is something that our friends at the lane are used to and applaud each week.

But this week a new England hero has emerged from the Old Trafford Shadows to possibly lead a new look arsenal attack against Manchester City at the lunchtime kick off tomorrow.

Mesut Ozil has admitted the only opinion that is important to him is the view of the Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger, as he discussed his impressive assist record for the club.

The German playmaker has received criticism since moving to the Emirates last year in a deal worth €50 million.

However, Wenger has continuously praised the former Real Madrid ace and as long as he continues doing that, Ozil will be happy.

Ozil happy with praise from boss

Goal.com quoted the 25-year-old on the praise he receives and Le Professor.

The transfer of Danny Welbeck from Manchester United to Arsenal was one of the biggest on transfer deadline day but it has been met with mixed reaction from pundits and managers alike.

Some quarters have praised the deal Arsenal have got and believed the England international can flourish at the Emirates.

However, many also feel Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal is right to sell the 23-year-old because of his inconsistency.

Not good enough for Man United?

The Red Devils boss has been speaking about the deadline day transfer and believes he made the right decision, letting Welbeck depart Old Trafford after 14 years at the club.
